Similar to the Lalitasana posture, with the right elbow resting on the right knee, and the fingers of the right hand lightly touching the right cheek. This posture did not exist in India, but was popular during the Northern and Southern Dynasties in China. It has two symbolic meanings. First, it represents the Buddha contemplating on the sufferings of all sentient beings when he was still a bodhisattva. Second, it represents Bodhisattva Maitreya in contemplation.
